Passing the Torch #2 On Worship

My professor Dr. David M. Kasali once gave me the image of worship being
like a torch passed throughout the globe, but the reality of the thought came
to being while traveling abroad. Realizing that as I worshipped the Almighty
in Jaco, Costa Rica, my youth group at home was gathering for worship. On Sunday,
just a few hours before us the churches to the east in the next time zone were
passing on the torch of God’s praise. And as our service would come to
an end, the church body in California would be starting their services. Thinking
about the 24 hour worship service continuing throughout the globe, in the church
body, legally and, even illegally, in various tongues and cultures, reminded
me of God’s infinite power and presence alive, available and working
wonders in each location, in every corner of the globe.
Granted worship is not confined to the gathering and times of a worship service
nor constrained to music. However, worship is an intentional spiritual action
that can be carried out in our attitude, intentions, words, actions, goals, desires
and sacrifices.
Worship unites the global church body in declaring this “trustworthy
saying” of
2 Timonth 2:11-13 (NIV) “If we died with him, we will also
live with Him; If we endure, we will also reign with Him; If we disown him, he
will also disown
us; If we are faithless, he will remain faithful, for He cannot disown himself.” It
is our way of recognizing and acknowledging our Creator God who loves us. It
is our way of declaring to one another God’s sovereignty in the situations
we seek to be delivered from. It is our way of rejoicing with one another and
giving thanks to God for the good things in our lives. Independently, it is our
humble cry out (in joy or despair), as we acknowledge how small and weak we are
before God.
As I pass the torch of worship on, from my morning of Children’s ministry
and my mini worship session at the park, how will you carry out His praise today?

Time to Journal it: What does it mean to you to be a true worshipper? How
can and will you be a true worshipper today?
