Red Light

My friend was driving on the road and came to a red light. Coming to a complete stop, she thought she had been at that side of the intersection long enough, so she moved along the road. “Stop! It’s a light!” cried out her friend in confusion. The friend blushed in embarrassment. She had been so out of it, she was thinking it was just a sign. She had run the light. It was a good thing there were no other cars, nor was there a cop.

How many of us are like the car, we get off focus, go into church, have some worship and that’s enough for now? I believe that worship is meant to exist in and out of the church. I don’t mean you have to go on singing all week, though I don’t mean you can’t. There are many ways to worship in the presence of God. Go and do what you enjoy doing, but invite the presence of God to join you. You’ll find no greater joy than what comes from spending time with God. And as Switchfoot sings, tell God that, “I want more.”

Another significant point that I would like to remind you is that worship is for today and tomorrow. Even if you are struggling and ‘nothing is going right,’ realize that it was hard for Jesus and His disciples to worship when Jesus was going to be crucified. But, they were able to worship, because they knew that Jesus was going to be resurrected. When life is going bad, keep on worshipping the holy and sovereign divinity, knowing that God is in charge and will take care of you.

**Following up** Michael W. Smith’s promotional items include shirts and stickers with the line, “created to worship.” Just think about the different ways that you can worship this week. Go ahead and be creative, just keep the focus on praising your mighty God. I’ve left this one quite open for you to get into the Word, but if you need a place to start: Psalm 46&47, 51:10-12
